BILLY GILMOUR DESTINED FOR GREATNESS

BILLY GILMOUR DESTINED FOR GREATNESS

Former Chelsea ace Pat Nevin is unsurprised with the early impression made by midfielder Billy Gilmour. The 18-year-old was recently handed his maiden Blues start in the FA Cup fifth round against Liverpool and he managed to dominate the proceedings in the midfield with his impressing positioning.

Thereafter, the youngster made his full Premier League debut against Everton and he produced a similarly effective performance as the Blues ran out 4-0 victors. In both of those games, he was adjudged as the man of the match and that has not surprised Nevin, who has watched the midfielder’s progress through the youth ranks.

REECE JAMES FOR ENGLAND

REECE JAMES FOR ENGLAND

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has hailed the crossing abilities of Reece James into the box and believes the club graduate will provide tough competition to Trent Alexander-Arnold for the right-back with England. James has been one of the many young players, who have benefited from Lampard’s management this season and his performances have been consistently good despite the club’s average form over the past few months.

James has got a number of crosses into the box with perfection this season but unfortunately, his teammates have not been on the same wavelength and most of the times, they have been slow to react to the deliveries. As a result, James has managed just two assists over the course of the Premier League campaign but Lampard is hopeful that the statistic improves with the better understanding with the club’s forwards.

Frank Lampard critical of Chelsea players after Bournemouth defeat

Frank Lampard critical of Chelsea players after Bournemouth defeat

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has expressed his disappointment on the team following their shock 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League. The west London giants were tipped to pick up a victory against an injury-plagued Bournemouth side but that was clearly not the case as they lacked the cutting edge in the final third of the pitch.

The Capital outfit were frustrated for most parts of the game against a resolute Cherries defence and they were ultimately on the wrong end of a 1-0 result after Gosling beat the offside trap to score the winning goal in the 84th minute. Speaking after the game, Lampard said that the Blues have struggled in front of their supporters this term and acknowledged that the performance against the Cherries was far from acceptable.

Drogba Wants to Run for Role of Ivory FA President

Drogba Wants to Run for Role of Ivory FA President

Didier Drogba has revealed that he does not want to spend time in the dugout as a coach, as he has much bigger plans for his future. The 41-year-old announced his retirement as a player following his recent spell with Phoenix Rising. Immediately, speculation mounted about his potential return to Chelsea, where he was reportedly offered a great job as a coach. However, Drogba has turned down this option in order to try and become the next Ivorian FA president.Augustin Sidy Diallo is the current president of the Ivorian FA and Drogba has already started campaigning about his outline for the FA if he takes over.

Regarded as one of the greatest African footballers, Drogba has been able to win every major honour in English football during his time with Chelsea – over two spells. Hence, a natural line of progression would have been taking up a coaching role at Chelsea considering that the club have already brought in two of their former players – Petr Cech and Frank Lampard – in a coaching capacity. Lampard has been appointed as the club manager whereas Petr Cech is the sporting director. Drogba would have been in a bigger capacity, but he has chosen to spend his time with African football, where he is regarded in legendary status.

Lampard believes Chelsea duo will become ‘big players’ for the club

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James have a big career ahead with the Blues. The young duo are currently in training after recovering from their respective injury setbacks and they are likely to make their first-team bow under Lampard before the end of the month.

Speaking in a press conference, Lampard said that both Hudson-Odoi and James need to achieve peak fitness before they are up for selection for the first-team. The Blues legend added that the duo are likely to make a big impact with the club going forward, he told: “Callum’s going to play along with Reece James, so they’ll get minutes which is important now because Callum has been training with us for a while but there are still some issues with the injury itself that we need to make sure he’s OK with. He’ll need to get match fit, so these games are really beneficial for him and Reece James similarly. I’m pleased with that. They’re two young players that are going to be big for this club going forward.”

Allardyce slams Chelsea’s second-half showing against Manchester United

Former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce has criticised the performance of Chelsea during the season opener against Manchester United on the road. The Blues were the dominant side in terms of the chances created and possession at Old Trafford, but that did not necessarily influence the outcome of the game as United won by a comfortable 4-0 score.

Speaking after the encounter, Allardyce stated that the Blues were the better team in the league clash but that has not been reflected with the result. He continued to criticise the west London giants, who seemed to lose concentration during the final 30 minutes where they conceded as many as three goals on the counter-attack.

Lampard hints Kante could return from injury for the season opener

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has said that midfielder N’Golo Kante could make a comeback from a knee injury ahead of the Premier League opener against Manchester United next month. The France international has been sidelined with a knee problem picked up at the backend of the previous campaign but Lampard believes the midfielder is making good progress in terms of the recovery at the club’s training base.

Speaking in a press conference, Lampard confirmed that the World Cup winner has returned to individual training and he could link up with his teammates in the next few days, he said: “He is training. He has dipped into training with us in the last couple of days. There is a lot more that he needs to do physically, off without us that he can do without any contact which has been good but the signs are good in the last three days that we have been back.”

When pressed further about a possible return date, Lampard hinted that he could make the comeback for the curtain raiser, although that depends on whether he is able to achieve peak fitness, he continued:“He is a top class player, so however much you want him in, at the same time you have to make sure he is as fit as he can be when he comes back.”

Under the guidance of Lampard, the Blues have endured a mixed pre-season with victories in three of their five matches. Nonetheless, there have been positives on the attack front with six goals scored in the past two games against Barcelona and Reading alone and Lampard will be hoping that the team can continue to shine in the final third, where they don’t have the services of Eden Hazard anymore.  Chelsea have two games remaining against Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Monchengladbach to conclude their pre-season campaign.
