Chelsea’s signing RB Leipzig star Timo Werner to the club is taken as a motivation by Oliver Giroud. He says that more competition will only motivate him to play better on the pitch. Werner was signed by Chelsea after a prolonged clash between the top clubs of Europe which includes Liverpool. Lampard has discussed with the player and agreed to the transfer fee clause of £47.5 million.
Giroud in the first half of the current season has only got a few minutes of playing time. Butat the beginning of 2020,he has patched up his way back to the team and he has signed a one-year extension of his contract. He has scored a couple of goals this season before the game was suspended due to coronavirus. He is ready to be the part of the team which will be facing Aston Villa in their first match after the resumption of games.
International and club teammate of Giroud,N’Golo Kantehas voiced the concern as a number if COVID 19 cases have increased. Giroud says that he can definitely understand the concern of the player.
Giroud was the part of World Cup-winning squad of France in 2018 and was also the part of the Euro 2021. But with the intervention of coronavirus, it has been postponed to 2021 which has lessened the chance of him being fit. He will be aged 34 when the Euro Cup comes next year but he is not worried about this. In his international career for France, he has scored 39 goals by playing in 97 matches.
He said: “Panic is not for me. Time is not playing on my side, I’m almost 34, but my body is ready to play a few more years at the best level. We are World Cup champions and we want to do like our brothers from France 98 and win the European Championship.”
